The Landing

So I've landed. My two week mini vacation to where I will soon be living, Peterborough, I am ready to just explore the town. I'll be back in the states in two weeks to pack up some things, but for now I am just going to take it easy.

I finally got a flight yesterday around four o'clock. A friend set me up with a buddy pass.
But because someone in the line for boarding passes was having trouble and three people decided to help him instead of helping others, I had to wait an extra 20 minutes before starting security, though I was patient. Hartsfield on a Friday morning.....
I suggest you don't do it. It's miserable.
I had an 8:20 am Flight, Drew dropped me off at 7:00, I got through security ten minutes before my flight was to leave, by the time I had gotten to the gate, they had just closed the door. So had to get my flight re-booked for the noon flight, needless to say I didn't get on that one either, what was weird was that at the last minute another girl named Hilary showed up, and took my seat because she had a parent that worked for Airtran or something, it was unfortunate and the lady at the desk felt sorry for me and she was able to actually book me a seat for the next flight.

Though turbulent and tight, I made it into soggy Buffalo.
It was welcoming enough, the city that is. Flying in over the blocks of fancy houses, all with they're own pools I thought I would get sick during landing.
The flight was pretty bumpy and I was snug between to men, strangers of course, the one to my right quiet and kind, wearing some sort of Astronomical coat with badges, the other a big loud and laughy guy. Both equally as pleasant, though it made using my arm rest difficult, it kind of felt like we were all mutual acquaintances like some one sitting next to you during a high school assembly. All polite, but all much wanting to sit next to friend, but then settling for the others company.

I was relieved to get off the plane, the buffalo airport is extremely quiet and empty. I was extremely excited, I could feel my temperature rising and I was smiling so hard the muscles behind my ears had started to hurt in minutes. I was searching the crowd.

And then I saw him, James. We embraced and I knew I was safe.

So far the trip has been amazing, the downtown is beautiful. I keep forgetting to purchase a camera, so that I can scan the photos...that will all come in time. I will be visiting the university this week, getting everything set up for my arrival.

It's cold here already. I'm afraid I had forgotten mittens and a hat. I will have to purchase a set, other than that, I love the crispness of the air and the friendly faces on the street. Everyone everywhere seems so happy, it's hard to find someone miserable.

I love it.

James left for Canada

Late Monday afternoon, James and his mother packed up and left for the Great White north, leaving me to clean house and sit all by my lonesome, for I had no car and my bike was blocked in the back room by many things.
Needless to say I called my mother, who promptly left her house and drove 45 minutes to retrieve me.
I felt the need to be surrounded by people, family may not be the right choice when it comes to high stress situations, but at this moment it's all I really wanted, they filled me up with food, free cable tv and after spending a lovely afternoon with my grandmother they sent me off to prepare for a shift that I'd picked up at the Corner Cafe (my previous place of employment) the next day.

Back in Carrollton spending the night alone in that big ol' round house wasn't quite as nice as I expected. Though I've done it many times, that night was different. Not only was I alone in my house, I was alone in the country.
Jessie (James' sister, one of four siblings, which is really four out of seven siblings, Jessie being the 2nd oldest of the 3rd batch) was out for the night so I rummaged through her movies, found some trash to watch and snuggled up with ten or more pillows.
When I was bored of that and of eating vegetable pot pie, I creaked downstairs, which was desolate except for a few remaining fruit flies, I had found them all sucking on a sponge I had left out, the only thing left there for sustenance I suppose, and was able to kill most of them though a few linger on and attempt to fly up my nose.
And after falling asleep waiting on a call from James, my alarm rang at 8:10,
of course I did the boring things like brush my teeth and feed my cats.
I found Jessie was home and we called her parents which is where James is staying, up in Peterborough, Ontario, a lovely university town.
Spoke with James, whom I had woken up only to leave for work before anything was accomplished.
I did learn that James and His mother were stopped at the boarder because Heather (James' Mom or Mum as he refers to her) had been taking pictures at the boarder, and after several boarder control officers pointed them on to the next officer, they were told to pull over an vacate the car, at this point the boarder control had begun searching James' car, and after many minutes and many questions as to why James had so many items woman's clothing in his trunk, the boarder patrol decided it was a lost cause, put their suit cases back into the back seat and told James and Heather they could load the trunk. And though many threats where made to take Heather's camera away and her merely saying her take it, she got to keep her camera. They had finally asked her what her occupation was, and when she responded "a political geography professor" they knew all their hard work was for nothing and James and his mother drove onto Toronto.

So here I am, waiting. "Spending time with my family"...and with boredom, my dog the only true company, yet
I am so extremely excited about Peterborough and Trent I can't contain myself, but hey....
you need to come see me.
